Turnstiles:
The Best of Billy Joel
Performed "live" by Carl Rosen
Born in
Seaford, (Long Island) New York just 10 miles from where Billy Joel spent
much of his youth, Carl Rosen has been performing 'Turnstiles: The Best of
Billy Joel' since 1994. Vocally, Carl is a "ringer" for the
voice of Billy Joel. Playing piano since age 3, Carl's piano ability is
very close to that of Billy Joel's. Well... Carl puts it this way,
"Billy's a great piano player. I don't think of myself as good as he
is, even if I did think it, I'd never say it." As for being told his
voice sounds like Joel's? "Fortunate coincidence," says Carl.
Those who attend Carl's "Turnstiles" shows are likely to hear
some of the hits such as, 'Allentown,' 'Piano Man,' 'Movin'
Out (Anthony's Song),' and
'We
Didn't Start the Fire.' Also heard are great songs that are not on the radio
much but can be heard at a Billy Joel concert. These include, 'Scenes from
an Italian Restaurant,' 'The Ballad of Billy the Kid,' 'Only the Good Die
Young,' and 'Downeaster "Alexa."'
Carl had the pleasure of playing a few of Billy Joel's songs for Billy
himself. "A couple of his friends with him seemed to be teasing him.
I don't know for sure if he was 'freaked out' or not," Carl said.
